This fun tidbit was shared with us by a kind and informative museum store buyer when she was placing her order for these, we couldn’t help but feel the need to bring awareness to the origins of the mom tattoo!:
"Sailors had tattoo’s as “resumes” that would be logged to determine not only who they were (in case drowned at sea), but also denoted certain accomplishments – the “famous” swallow tattoo said 5,000 nautical miles traveled, plus was “good luck”, as swallows always returned home. “Mom” started appearing during WW2, since modern sailors had dog tags and other ways of being identified."
